When we made the decision to move to Spain (we’re English) I never imagined the winters would be quite this cold. We’re about as far south as you can get—you can see the Mediterranean from the house—but we’re also up a mountain, at around 3000 feet, and the seasonal changes can be quite dramatic. From the arid, brown landscape in the heat of the summer to the snow and freezing cold in the winter.
But once the winter is finally over—right about now—we get the lush green of spring. So here are a few things I love about March in the mountains in Spain:
Not having to wear a whole load of layers!
Everything is coming to life, orchids are springing up everywhere and soon there will be a carpet of wildflowers.
Perfect horse riding weather. My mare, Gencianna, has three modes—in the winter she’s a mad bitch (my fault I don’t ride enough, I’m a definite fair weather rider!) in the summer she’s a lazy cow (then again so am I) but in between she has moments of near perfection.
And finally…writing—after all I’m a romance writer, and spring is the season for romance! And even better I can sit in the sunshine and write rather than huddled by the fire!
So what do you love (or hate) about March?
