My reading goes up and down. At certain times, I devour books, and other times, it will take me a while to get through one. Right now, I’m in a major reading mood. I’ve been reading like a crazy person, and it has been awesome! Here are a few of my favorites from the past few months.
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. It’s so good! This is one of the best novels I’ve read in awhile. It’s full of twists and turns and surprises.
Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride and Prejudice by Curtis Sittenfeld. This book was so much fun. If you’re a purist and don’t want anyone messing with the original version, this isn’t for you. But if you’d love to see a present day “Liz” and Darcy, I think you’ll enjoy it.
Yes Please by Amy Poehler. I enjoy a little celebrity gossip, and I love women who are smart and doing cool stuff; therefore, I really liked this book. I also loved that she made a big deal about how hard it is to write a book. I’m right there with you, Amy. It kicks my butt every time.
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. If someone tells me the ending of a book made them cry, I often skip it. I don’t really enjoy depressing books, but I have to say, even though this book dealt with some tough issues, I would still recommend it. Sometimes the heroine drove me crazy, but the two characters had enough chemistry and the storyline was compelling enough (boy, is it compelling) that I loved them anyway.
If you want to see more of what I’ve been reading, check out my Goodreads page. And of course, I recommend all the books written by the ladies here at the blog. This is one talented bunch!
What are you reading this summer?
About Beth Rhodes
Beth jumps into life with both feet...or head first. Impulsive and spontaneous to a T, she joined Passionate Critters and never looked back. She loves writing and reading, which made this wonderful group of woman a perfect match for her.
I’m totally the same and go through periods where I’ll read a book a day and then others where I can’t get into anything (probably just as well as I’d never get anything else done.) I’ve just read Me Before You as well and I cried (can’t get into the sequel though – might just be a none reading period). Off to look up Big Little Lies.
I feel like I’ve been so out of the reading loop lately, thanks for the great suggestions.
I have been reading mostly writing books lately. I’m ready for some great fiction though, and these made my list. Thanks!
I have Yes, Please on audiobook, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Like reading, I go through phases. I would highly recommend both books by Jennifer Lawson (aka The Bloggess), Furiously Happy and Let’s Pretend This Never Happened. Both will make you cry, in the that’s-so-funny and the cathartic way.

I’ve been devouring a bunch of different books – all romance, of course – mainly in the historical, contemporary and erotic romance categories.
My favorite read this summer has been (ooh, this is really hard for me) The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz (dark and twisty). Plus, I’ve dug into some romances by Tessa Dare, and a debut by Lenora Bell that was pretty amazing.
I typically get super busy and don’t get to read as much as I want to, which is probably for the best because I can get lost in books. 🙂
