Just for the Summer with Jenna Rutland

Please join me in welcoming today’s guest blogger, Jenna Rutland. Sit back, grab a cold drink and enjoy the visit…as always, all comments are entered for a chance at our monthly drawing, so don’t be shy!

I’d like to thank Bethanne and all the wonderful women here for their very generous offer of allowing me to be a guest blogger today!

I was excited to hear that the July theme is summer! We are smack dab in the middle, although here in SE Michigan the weather has been chilly the last few days with a hint of fall in the air. Of course, it doesn’t help when the stores are touting their back to school sales.

As a kid, we took one vacation every year. It was to a little place in Northern Michigan right on the Canadian border called Sugar Island. It was a family vacation, but centered on my father needing his much-earned two week vacation from work. It was a fishing vacation, which I learned to love. At an early age, I could even bait my hook and remove my own fish, it if wasn’t too big.

My family knew that even though I enjoyed being on the boat, I wasn’t a diehard like the rest of them. My mom let me take my best friend every year and that made all the difference. We spent time exploring the woods, sitting on the dock working on our tans, and the best part of all—reading late into the night, anything and everything romance. We didn’t care if it was historical, contemporary or suspense. We would read until the wee hours, and there were times that we’d barely gotten to sleep when the adults were up and getting ready to go out fishing and we’d sleep in.

Even though our annual vacation wasn’t going to Disneyworld or sightseeing in a foreign country, we looked forward to those two weeks every year. I can truly say that those summer vacations by the lake rooted my love of reading romance, and for that I will always be grateful.

Living in the north, there are things we get to experience for only a small part of the year—windows wide open to catch the smell of fresh-cut grass, digging and planting in our gardens, and eating outside at cookouts with friends and family.

When I began writing this story, I knew I wanted to include some of my favorite things so it didn’t take me long to decide to set it in the summertime. And guess what? My characters enjoy the same things I do about summer! At the last minute, my book title was changed to the current, Just for the Summer. I fell in love with the title immediately and am so thankful my publisher came up with this great title. Hope you enjoy reading about Dani and Matt’s unforgettable summer.

Take care, and enjoy the rest of your summer!
xoxo – Jenna

His temptation. Her secret. Their summer.

Dani Sullivan has come to Lake Bliss to write her latest cookbook and take a breather. But from the moment single dad and sheriff Matt Reagan shows up, she has a hard time convincing herself that a life away from Lake Bliss could beat the life she might have here.

Recently divorced Matt is ready for a new relationship, but he doesn’t want short-term—his son needs permanence, and so does Matt’s heart. Unfortunately, it’s the smart-mouthed and sinfully sexy Ms. Sullivan who catches his eye. But when Matt learns Dani’s secrets, will he still want her to stay? The Happy Ever After…After ~ with Jeannie Moon

Welcome to June and here at Heart-Shaped Glasses it’s wedding season! Today I’m thrilled to introduce our guest, Jeannie Moon! Her debut romance is burning up the charts and it takes place in a location I know well…Long Island! Welcome Jeannie!

The Happy Ever After…After.

It’s June and just like everywhere else love is in bloom and weddings are everywhere.

The Temporary Wife, my debut contemporary romance from Intermix, starts out with a marriage of convenience. But this wasn’t a hasty, run-away-to-Vegas-and-marry-quick wedding. No, Meg and Jason’s beautiful wedding was staged in a vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island and they honeymooned on his yacht. He is a billionaire remember.

Such is the stuff of romance dreams, but when I thought about the book and about the wedding that Meg had, I came to the conclusion as so many do, that the story just begins there. The wedding is the first chapter on a long, epic adventure. So the mini wedding cakes and the designer dress and shoes, the food, the yacht, none of that means anything. In the end it comes down to two people. And that’s not the end…that’s the beginning.

Meg and Jason face many trials and tribulations to get to their happy ever after, but that’s true for all of us. My husband and I have been married for almost twenty-five years and while my wedding day is still a beautiful memory, it’s everything that’s come after that’s made this special.

When we read romance novels, we know the happy ever after is coming. It’s why we read them, but a real marriage, a real happy ever after comes after the couple says I do.

That’s when the love story starts.

The Temporary Wife

TheTemporaryWife (2)It was an offer she couldn’t refuse…from a man she couldn’t resist.

Kindergarten teacher Megan Rossi is devoted to being a mother to her best friend’s five-year-old daughter, Molly. When the child was orphaned, Meg became the little girl’s legally named guardian—over the objections of Molly’s wealthy grandparents, the Campbells. Now the Campbells are petitioning for custody, and Meg is faced with a long and expensive legal battle. The last thing she expects is for her former high school boyfriend—and the Campbells’ estranged son—to offer a solution: marriage.

Billionaire software developer Jason Campbell knows his parents don’t have Molly’s best interests at heart—it’s all about control for them. There is one way he can ensure that his sister’s last wishes are honored. He will offer Meg the protection of his name and lawyers until the custody arrangement has been finalized , then he’ll secure his niece’s future with a very generous divorce settlement. Jason’s considered all the scenarios, except one—that the sparks that once flew between he and Meg might reignite a burning passion. And that his confirmed bachelor heart might just melt away from the heat…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi everyone! I am so honored and delighted to be the first guest on Through Heart Shaped Glasses! Thanks so much to Jennifer and all the HSG gals for having me here today.
First Kiss: Bliss or Miss?
Since this is a month of firsts, I thought I’d talk about The First Kiss. That moment when you lean in, ready to lock lips with that special someone for the very first time ever. Your heart is racing, your stomach is quivering, your head is spinning. You make contact and then one of two things happens: you don’t ever want to stop or you can’t stop quickly enough.
My first kiss was a big ‘ol miss.  I’d been crushing on this boy forever. He was a black belt and one of the junior instructors at my younger brother’s karate studio. I’d go all the time to watch my brother just so I could secretly stare at this too-cute boy. He was sixteen and so cool, and I was fourteen and well, not. When he called me and asked me out, I thought I’d die. (This was also my very first date, and I had no idea he’d even noticed me.) He took me to the movies and held my hand the whole time. It was nice. It was sweet. On the drive back to my house, I started to get nervous, though. I wanted to kiss him. I really wanted to kiss him. But I was worried I’d do it all wrong.
Well, he walked me to my front door and I didn’t have time to get nervous because he proceeded to immediately shove his tongue down my throat. There was nothing romantic about it. Nothing sweet. The wet, sloppy assault had me reaching for the door handle and hurrying inside. Gross! I thought. And my image of this boy was forever ruined.
We never went out again. I ditched the karate studio for tennis and homework.
In my just-released novel, KISSING THE MAID OF HONOR, a first kiss plays an important role in the story. A fun role because it stirs up conflict. And desire. Wishes, too. Do I wish my first kiss had been bliss? Hmm… I’m not sure. I mean everything happens for a reason, right? I will say future kisses were much, much better.
What about you? Was your first kiss Bliss or Miss?
*Special note: Next week my publishing sister, Jennifer Shirk, and I are having some fun with our Bliss releases from Entangled Publishing. We’re hosting a Bliss Kiss War in honor of her book, KISSING KENDALL, and my book, KISSING THE MAID OF HONOR. We’ll be blogging, Facebooking, and giving away a $20 GC! We hope you’ll check it out!*
