April Showers Bring…Plot Bunnies?

file000439406769Like many people, spring is one of my favorite seasons. Living in Wisconsin, the warmer weather is always welcomed, especially if it melts the snow at lightning speed. Usually by the time April rolls around, we’ve had at least some thaw, but this year? Nuh-uh. Not even a little. I still can’t see my mailbox on the other side of the snow in my yard and there’s still a good inch of ice in my driveway. You what would help make it all go away? Some rain!

I know rain makes some of my fellow bloggers crabby, but me? I adore rain! The whole April showers bit? Bring. It. On! Not only is a good downpour or thunderstorm a  promise of better weather to come (as opposed to more of the nasty “S” word), the writer in me is super inspired by a nice, long pitter-patter on the roof. I don’t know what it is, but it never fails–spring rain hits and it’s like the perfect nourishment for my fruitful imagination. The plot bunnies come out in troves and it’s all I can do to scratch down notes on all of them. And if there’s a loud, crashing storm? Mmm. All the better. In fact, the bigger the storm, the naughtier my steamy scenes turn out!

How about you? Are you a fan of the spring rain or do you dread the mud it makes? Do you like storms, or do you run for cover at the first crack of lightning? I’m a storm watcher, so I’m usually running back and forth between the patio and my laptop. I even set my River Bend series in rural Nebraska, just so I’d have a good excuse to write a few whopper storms, maybe even a tornado! I know–I’m crazy! lol But sometimes…you just gotta embrace what get’s the creativity going!

Here’s to a great April! ~Molly

  1. I do love to curl up and read and/or write on rainy days…it’s just when we don’t see the sun for days on end that it depresses me. 🙂

  2. Molly McLain says:

We got nailed with snow and ice last night and it’s supposed to last through today. If only it were a little warmer, we would’ve had rain! There’s a possibility of thundersnow today. That’ll be interesting! lol

  3. Jennifer Shirk says:

Ha! No! You would think the rain would inspire me to write, but instead it makes me want to NAP. LOL

  4. The smell of rain in the air, the first heavy splats of rain on the window pain, a good sound crack of thunder, yup … a few of my favorite. When I lived in Wisconsin, the rain was always a cleansing ritual. Lightning storms were more fun to watch than a Lucy rerun.

    • that poor suffering window!

LOL Gail. 🙂 I didn’t even notice the first time I read though your response.

But yes…there’s nothing better than the scent of a nice cool storm. It sprinkled a little bit this morning and I got all excited, but then nothing happened. Boo. I’m chomping at the bit for the first official storm of the season!
