How I Relieve Stress

hand-labor-1151300x225We writer’s tend to be an anxious lot. Will I be rejected? Will that email come? What should I say when I query this publisher? Do I even have any talent? The unrelenting worries are constant.

I think there’s a lot of writing that involves putting ourselves out of our comfort zone. Anytime you do that, anxiety is a natural byproduct.

What I’d love to know is how everyone manages their stress levels. I write–I’m kidding. When I get into the zone, I can forget about those worries as the story sucks me in, but when I stop for the day, they’re all still in my head.

Personally, I crochet. The repetition and production of an item is very calming for me. And I love that I can create beautiful things out of a single (very long) thread of yarn. I recently made two baby blankets, a teddy bear (this is called amigurumi), and I’m working on a shawl for my daughter’s formal in a couple of weeks.

I’m truly curious… what do you do to relieve stress?

If anyone is interested in crochet, Youtube is a fantastic tool for learning! My new favorite stitch is called c2c (corner to corner) and works up in a gorgeous way. I’m including the video that I used to learn c2c.

About Lori Sizemore

Lover of nail polish, pens, her Kindle, and fresh coffee. She likes romance filled with messy, real characters and lots of snarky banter. Reading was (and still is!) her BFF; when she discovered writing she fell in love. Come for the snark. Stay for the story.

Romeo & Juliet

Ah yes, one of the most re-told stories in my opinion. There are many great movies out there that originate from books, but none touches my soul more than this romantic tragedy.

You can capture this great masterpiece in book form, in movie form, play, or ballet. It is a story that can speak to generations. And while I enjoy the classic telling of the story, there is something to be said for the modernized versions of this tale. How many people found Shakespeare boring before Leonardo and Claire?

And I ran across this little image for yet another version that I’ve added to my to be watched pile. has anyone seen this version?

And let us not forget a small shout out to the cartoon versions….

I think seeing the remakes and various tellings of such a classic story really speaks volumes for the work itself. The Romeo and Juliet influence can be seen in many books out there and I for one, will forever be grateful for William Shakespeare.

What is your go to favorite book to movie?

Happy Birthday to Me

WeddingsecretcoverHi, all!

Today is kind of a birthday…it’s a BOOK Birthday!

I have a new novella out today —THE WEDDING SECRET–based on Lucy Kevin’s “Four Weddings and a Fiasco” romance series.

This exciting for me for a whole new reason besides just having a new release. This is the first time I’ve ever written a Kindle Worlds story. What is that? Basically, there are certain stories or licensed “Worlds” created by other authors and a new author can sort of piggyback on that created world and write a new story out of it.

I was very excited to be invited to participate in Lucy Kevin’s world. Thank you so much for the opportunity! If you would like to read the first book in this series, it’s free now on Amazon. · The Wedding Gift ~  http://lucykevin.com/KW_Kevin1

~The Wedding Secret~

Ten years after a high school pregnancy left her abandoned by her family, single mother Brenna March is finally getting her life under control. In possession of her dream job as a florist at the Rose Chalet, one of the premier wedding spots in San Francisco, she’s about to prove her worth and take on her first wedding as head florist. Unfortunately, the best man is none other than Senator Ashton Mirenda—her old high school sweetheart and the father of the daughter he knows nothing about.

Ashton doesn’t have time for marriage or a family. He has other aspirations and the first is winning the next senate seat election. Or so he believes until he meets a woman from his past. Seeing Brenna again stirs something inside him he’d thought long dead, and he knows that he wants her beside him all the way to the White House. But Brenna is holding a ten year old secret, one which could not only hurt his chance for re-election but also their chance to rekindle the love they once shared.

5 Guilty Pleasures by Julie Jarnagin

We all have guilty pleasures. Those things we secretly love. When I think of guilty pleasures I think of Rachel on Friends who claimed Dangerous Liaisons was her favorite movie but her actual favorite movie was Weekend at Bernies. 🙂 I’ll share a few of my guilty pleasure if you’ll share yours!

  1. Reality TV – Right now, I love tiny house shows. I watched Project Runway Junior. I’ve also like the Real Housewives of New York. I even watched Married at First Sight even though I knew the whole thing was ridiculous.  I can’t help myself. Once I get hooked, I have to watch the entire season. Oh, and I’m obsessed with Dateline. Who doesn’t enjoy a good murder mystery. By the way, the significant other is always the guilty one.
  2. Junk Food – My favorites are Coke (the real stuff, not diet), Peanut M&Ms, and Cheez-Its.
  3. Self-Help and Motivational Books – I guess some people would think this is a good thing, but I read a lot of this stuff. I write fiction, so I should spend most of my time reading fiction. But I can’t resist ten steps that will change your life (but usually don’t.)
  4. My Slippers and Favorite Sweater – I have a pair of dirty old house shoes that always wear in the house–my poor husband. I also have a sweater that I wore when I was pregnant that is all stretched out. I’d like to say I’ve never gone out in public in either of these items but that would be a lie!
  5. Instagram – I’m not a big fan of Facebook because I really don’t want to know what your political views are. But I could spend hours on the Instagram “explore” page. All of those photos are mind numbing…in an awesome way.

So make me feel better about myself. What are your guilty pleasures?

My latest release – The Wedding Barn

http://amzn.to/1U4ThTnPaige Morgan’s career is in shambles. What kind of wedding planner gets left at the altar? So when a job planning parties on a ranch in rural Texas comes her way, she jumps at it. So what if the cowboy who runs the place isn’t happy she’s there?
Rancher Nick Reid risked his heart once… and lost. Who needs love? He’s got a great life on the family ranch—so long as Paige Morgan and her city ideas don’t ruin it all. If only his family didn’t need her help to save their livelihood. And if only he wasn’t so darned drawn to the woman. But no sooner does Nick start to believe in love again, than a socialite shows up looking for Paige. Asking her to plan an elaborate wedding. Back in the city.
Both Paige and Nick need a second chance at love. But what will it cost them to take it?
